Apple ditch the 13-inch MacBook Pro with no Touch Bar

13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and Touch ID from Apple

Apple have changed the MacBook Pro lineup, again

Apple fans will know that the latest MacBook Pro lineup features their new Touch Bar and Touch ID technology. The 'Touch Bar' (what Apple have named it) replaces the row of 'function' keys that sit across the top of the keyboard.

The 'esc' (escape) key still shows up it's a 'touch' one instead of a physical one and the on/off power key has a Touch ID button built into it. It is the same technology that we see on the older iPhone models before the iPhone X range launched. It is an extra layer of security and allows you to unlock your Mac and make purchases in the Mac Apple Store and on various websites - all by pressing your chosen finger onto the small sensor.

This latest change wasn't hugely publicised, so you properly don't know about it.

When you visit the UK and USA version of Apple's site, select MacBook Pro and click the blue 'Buy' button, you'll notice the 13-inch MacBook Pro with no Touch Bar has disappeared and been removed from the site and has instead been replaced with a 'new' version with the Touch Bar.

This is stated on the website as the first two models for the 13-inch version have a 'new' section added.

Apple have confirmed the 13-inch version with no Touch Bar was replaced approximately 3-4 weeks ago.

The specs, though, are still the same. The:

- 1.4GHz Quad-Core Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz, 128GB Storage, Touch Bar and Touch ID costs £1,299.00

- 1.4GHz Quad-Core Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz, 256GB Storage, Touch Bar and Touch ID costs £1,499.00

Now, if you want a MacBook with no Touch Bar as you prefer the function keys and other buttons such as the volume and play/pause ones, your only option is to go for the MacBook Air, which is cheaper than the Pro range.

Prices for the MacBook Air start at £1,099.00 in the UK and are only available with 13 inch screens.

We would also suggest opting for the MacBook, which is cheaper than both the Air and Pro and is less spec'd compared to the others, however, the MacBook has been removed from Apple's UK as US website, so we can only assume they are no longer in production.

At the time of writing, though, you can still get your hands on the 13 inch MacBook Pro with no Touch Bar and the MacBook via Apple's official Refurbished and Clearance store, which can be found on their website.
