The singer, David Bowie, has died of cancer, aged just 69.
A post was issued on David's social media accounts saying Bowie “died peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.”
Many tributes have been paid from places all around the world to David Bowie. His latest album, Blackstar, was released just on Friday (8th) on his 69th birthday.
Blackstar is David Bowie’s 25th Album.
He will be missed by many. Madonna is “devastated” by the loss of Bowie, and Sir Paul McCartney described his as a “great star”.
He had many hits in his fantastic lifetime including: Changes, Let’s Dance, Starman, Heroes, Space Oddity, Modern Love, Life On Mars, Rebel Rebel and Under Pressure.
Bowie, who had been living in New York for a time, released his latest album Blackstar last Friday, on his Birthday.
The album was intended as a “parting gift” to the world, according to Tony Visconti. A long time friend of Bowie, he is also a producer.
He wrote on Facebook, “His death was no different from his life – a work of art.” He said also, Bowie “was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us."
A huge crowd of fans gatherd in his birthplace – Brixton, south London to pay respects for David Bowie. They also sang also to all of his hits.
The Rolling Stones paid tribute to "an extraordinary artist" and a "true original".
