Co-founders of the popular photo sharing app are leaving the firm

Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, co-founders of the photo sharing giant Instagram are leaving the company, which is owned by social networking site, Facebook.

Facebook purchased the photo sharing app back in 2012 for £760m and both Systrom and Krieger have remained at the company and have continued to run the service. Krieger is the Chief Technical Officer.

CEO of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, said both him and Mike Krieger were departing from the company so they can "explore our curiosity and creativity again".

The pair have said that they're still excited for the future of Instagram and its parent company: Facebook. In a tweet, Krieger has said "it’s time for the next chapter."

The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, has responded by saying: "I've learned a lot working with them for the past six years and have really enjoyed it".

We're also excited for the future of Instagram, with new features and a new CEO that must be coming soon.
