Apple could be slowing down your iPhone 8 and iPhone X
Reports suggest that tech firm, Apple, are slowing down iPhone 8, iPhone X Plus and iPhone X models with a brand new feature.
The Sun Online has said this has already happened to iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 devices and that the same will be happening to iPhone 8 and iPhone X devices because of the latest iOS update on Tuesday this week.
Back in December 2017, Apple did admit that it had been slowing down older iPhone models. This included the iPhone 6 and iPhone SE.
This has now moved into slightly newer iPhone models: the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
If you take a look on support pages on Apple's official site, it has begun to manage the battery life of the models, stated above.
Apple have said this is to preserve the life of your iPhone and it'll also protect those older batteries as well. If this is not done, it might cause your iPhone to crash and possibly force a shutdown if it becomes overused.
This is also controlled by the new performance management feature that was rolled out on the latest iOS update on Tuesday this week: iOS 12.1.
The good news is, if you want to, you can disable this feature in your iPhone's settings, however, there is a side-effect to this - we'll explain below.
To turn off the performance management feature:
- first, open the Settings app
- tap Battery
- now tap the Battery Health option
- now scroll down and find Peak Performance Capability
- tap Disable
Once this feature has been disable, you cannot manually enable it again. If you iPhone experiences and unexpected shut-down (as explained above), it'll enable again automatically.
