£19 for a polishing cloth. Really?
The Apple Polishing Cloth launched in October 2021 and costs £19.
'What is it?' We will explain. It is a microfibre cloth that is a sort of grey white colour and is marketed for cleaning 'any Apple display, including nano-texture glass, safely and effectively.' But let's be honest, it's a piece of cloth so it will be able to clean pretty much any display, such as the display on your iPhone or iPad, for example.
In fact, it doesn't just have to be used to clean your iPhone, iPad, or your expensive Apple Studio Display (starting from £1,499) or your even more expensive Pro Display XDR (starting from £4,599), it can be used to clean non-Apple products, too. Criminal, we know.
It's great that Apple has released the Polishing Cloth in to our lives. It's yet another product Apple fans all over the world will go out and buy, especially if you're the biggest Apple fan on the planet.
The point is, though, it costs £19. Just think about that for a second. £19 for a cleaning cloth. Is it because it has the Apple logo on it?
We've done some digging online (to be honest, it didn't take long) and searched Amazon for 'microfibre cleaning cloth' and unsurprisingly, loads of results appeared. What showed straight away was that when buying a microfibre cleaning cloth from Amazon, you don't just buy a single cloth, you buy a multipack. And yes, the multipack is cheaper than the singular cloth sold by Apple.
As an example, let's take a 'Best seller' (according to Amazon): 'MR.SIGA Microfiber Cleaning Cloth,Pack of 12,Size:12.6" x 12.6". This pack of 12 costs £11.99 and the listing states that equates to £1.00 per cloth.
The point we're trying to make is this: Apple's Polishing Cloth costs £19 and you're only getting one. Whereas, you can purchase other cloths (such as the example one, above), get multiple cloths (and in different colours) for a great price.
But, it depends what's important to you. If you're Apple through-and-through- you're going to buy their Polishing Cloth and if you're not, and want to spend £19 on something different, buy another cleaning cloth for cleaning your phone, tablet and monitor screens.
