Apple iPhone SE (2022)

Apple's iPhone SE 2022 has landed. It packs more features than before, like the A15 Bionic chip but keep an eye on battery life.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That is exactly what Apple has done with the third generation iPhone SE. Launched in 2022, this phone is fresh off the production line. If you are looking to upgrade your iPhone, this could be the next iPhone for you.

Keep reading and we tell you about all the new features the new iPhone SE 2022 packs in to its small form factor, as well as what to watch out for.

Staring from £419 (in the UK), it is the cheapest iPhone you can buy first hand, directly from Apple. It comes in three colours: Midnight (black), Starlight (white) and (PRODUCT)RED. (the name explains the colour this time round).

Capacity (storage) wise, there are three options: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB. If you are considering the new iPhone SE, we recommend going for the 128GB option. These days, by the time you have installed your favourite apps, games, photos and chat history backup from your previous phone, 64GB gives you very little wriggle room for snapping more photos and downloading more apps whenever you feel like it. Whereas, if you pick up the 128GB option (£469), you won't have to worry about running out of space anytime soon.

If you've been a longterm iPhone user, the design will feel some what comforting because it sports the same design used in the iPhone 8. That may mean it looks like you're using an old phone on the outside, but on the inside, there is a sprinkle of newness. More on that below.

Screen size on the iPhone SE 2022 is 4.7". Perfect for fitting in your pockets or a small bag. Plus, it'll feel comfortable to hold in your hand.

Here is where things get interesting. The iPhone SE 2022 has two new standout features: A15 Bionic chip and 5G.

The A15 Bionic chip is Apple's processor of choice for the SE. It's the same processor you'll find in the iPhone 13 series. This will mean the phone should last for longer (great if you're someone who holds on to their phone for as long as possible). It makes tasks feel snappy and glitch free.

And don't feel like you'll be left out on the gaming front either. If you're a mobile gamer, you'll still be able to play all the same games that someone would on a iPhone 13, thanks to that A15 Bionic.

The same goes if you're a photo or video editor. Thanks to the A15 Bionic, you can edit photos with your favourite photo editing apps, and edit videos on the fly with Apple's iMovie app that's pre-installed on your new iPhone SE 2022.

Apple claims iPhone SE 2022 offers 'Big-time battery life'. That may-be so however, the battery in the iPhone SE 2022 is 2,018mAh. Because of the powerhouse of a chip in the iPhone SE, you may find yourself on red and searching for a plug point at the end of the day. If battery life is important to you, iPhone SE 2022 might not be the phone for you. However, if you use your phone for a bit of light web browsing and scrolling social media every now and then, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

This brings us on to the second standout feature: 5G. 5G is now on iPhone SE. The previous models of iPhone SE didn't have 5G built-in, so this is a big bonus. It also shows this iPhone will be current for years to come.

If you're setting out to get an iPhone that is future-proofed, this may be the one for you. 5G offers, faster downloads and faster, smoother streaming than 4G, and a lot more besides.

Apple states on their site: 'With the power of A15 Bionic and a fast 5G connection, you’re set up for years to come.' They're not wrong.

Should you buy the iPhone SE 2022?

If you're in need of an upgrade but you want to stick with a form-factor you've known for years, The iPhone SE 2022 is for you. If offers the latest chipset, A15 Bionic, that's the same ones you'll find in iPhone 13, so you are setup for power and iPhone SE 2022 now has 5G, meaning you're setup for the latest advancement in mobile technology for when you're on the move. The only part you'll need to consider is if its battery life is something that may stop you in your tracks.

Which iPhone SE 2022 should you get?

If this has left you wanting to purchase the iPhone SE 2022 for yourself, here's the combination we think you should go for:

Colour: Midnight (black)

Capacity (storage): 128GB

Price to pay in full: £469.00.
