Here's all you need to know from the 2019 September Apple Event

Its been a long time in the making - here's all you need to know

Apple hosted its annual September Apple Event, live, which took place on Tuesday 10th September 2019 - and here is all you need to know.

Apple Arcade

We've all known about Apple Arcade for a while. It's a new online Apple-only subscription service the company are offering, alongside Apple TV+ which also features at the event.

On stage at the Apple Event last week, three new games were demonstrated. The first was a 'Frogger' game, all about a frog. The second was a game developed by Capcom studios called '

Humanities Last Survivor'. It's an underwater type game and boasts console level graphics and gameplay. The third game showed off was an interactive game by Annapurna. Think of it as a music video type game with high quality neon like graphics. You get a higher score by collecting hearts.

Apple Arcade will be available from September 19 with over 100 new games at launch with even more coming in the weeks that follow. Price wise, Apple Arcade comes with a 1 month free trail and it'll be $4.99 per month for a family subscription.

Apple TV+

Apple says that Apple TV+ will bring the best original stories from people in TV and film. Tim Cook (Apple's CEO) was on stage talking about the TV service offered by Apple. Trailers for Apple original TV shows and films 'All Mankind', Dickinson' and 'The Morning Show' have all been viewed over one million times.

Apple sure know how to market their products as they kept viewers on the edge of their seats by showing the first ever trailer for yet another Apple original film named 'See' directly at the event. The film is all about having very low vision and bad eyesight. The power of sight does then return to those in the film when children are born.

Apple TV+ will be available from 1st November this year with more movies and TV shows being added every month and it'll be available in over 100 countries. Apple are obviously trying to apply a theme to the pricing of TV+ as it'll cost exactly the same as Apple Arcade.

iPad and iPad OS

First off in the iPad game, Tim Cook spoke about not hardware but instead, software. 'iPad OS' as they've called it builds on the same ground as iOS but has even more features that'll take advantage of the bigger, brighter and bolder screen.

And of course, we couldn't talk about iPad without mentioning a brand 'new' one. This new iPad replaces the 9.7 one, which Apple mentioned on stage was the most popular one. Instead, they have made the screen even bigger 10.2 inch Retina display.

This new iPad hasn't been given a name like the 'iPad Pro', for example. It's just called 'iPad'. The new iPad features Apple's brand new A10 Fusion chip which is two times faster than the previous one.

Accessories wise, you'll be able to connect the official Smart Keyboard because iPad now features the smart connector on the rear of the iPad. It also has support for Apple Pencil. Bear in mind it'll be the 1st generation one as this all-new iPad has Apple's Lightening connecter.

You can order the new iPad now from Apple's website and can buy it from 30th November. It starts from $329 and $299 for Apple education customers.

The new iPad joins the iPad Mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro family so you still have the other models to choose from.

As mentioned above, all iPad models will run and support iPad OS when it finally launches - you'll just need to update your iPad within the Settings app. It'll feature more multitasking gestures, allowing you to switch between apps and you can swipe along the bottom of your screen to open two of the same apps. This will mean you can have two Safari tabs open on your screen, side by side, just as an example.

If you pinch on your keyboard when it is on screen, a new floating keyboard will appear, allowing you to move it to anywhere on screen.

Taking screenshots will also get easier thanks to iPad OS. To take a screenshot on iPad OS using Apple Pencil, just swipe from the bottom of the screen. This is something that cannot currently be done on iPad and Apple Pencil.

Apple Watch Series 5

As we thought, a new Apple Watch was launched, dubbed the Apple Watch Series 5, it's the best one yet.

One of the main selling points for the Series 5 is the new Always On Retina display, which the previous versions of Apple Watch don't have. The Always On display means you will always be able to see the time and complications.

Simply raise your wrist or tap the screen to wake the display up. The new LTPO OLED display allows for the Always On display on the Apple Watch Series 5.

Battery life on the Series 5 remains the same as previous versions with an all day battery life of 18 hours. Of course this does depend on how you use it.

A new feature that we welcome in Series 5 is the compass and compass app. Brilliant for finding your way out on walks and long hikes. To support the compass, the Maps app on the Watch has also been updated to show which way you're facing and also displays your longitude and latitude.

What's more? They've made the SOS safety feature even better by adding international emergency calling. The best part, though, is your don't even need your iPhone. Just simply press the button on the side of your Series 5. Remember to set this up in the watch settings.

They even have brand new cases and finishes for your Series 5 watch which means you can express yourself even more than before.

The Nike partnership is also still running strong (see what we did there?) as there are still many Nike straps and cases to choose from for the sports fans everywhere.

Series 5 watches will be in stores from September 20 with GPS versions starting from $399 and cellular ones from just $499.

If you cannot justify spending that much money on the new watch but still want to feel like part of the crowd, you can still purchase the Apple Watch Series 3 for just $199. The Series 4 is sadly no longer on sale but you may be able to pick up a refurbed one from Apple's refurb stock.

iPhone 11, 11 Pro & 11 Pro Max

Now we're really moving onto the main event with not just one brand new iPhone but three!

According to Apple and other data, last year's budget iPhone XR was the popular smartphone in the word. iPhone XS and XS Max were also created in 2018.

You'll have seen images and videos of the hot new iPhone models and in all three cases, the Apple logo is now slap bang in the middle of the rear of the phone which makes way for the new camera modules and layouts.

The iPhone 11 comes in six new colours: Black, Purple, White, Yellow, Green and Product Red and the device has a 6.1 inch Liquid Retina Display - the same type of display as the last year's iPhone XR.

Sound wise, you're not going to be disappointed as the iPhone 11 Pro features Dolby Atmos sound. Dolby is new to Apple iPhone this year but Dolby Atmos has featured in other handsets before now. Samsung started having Dolby Atmos on its premium phones since the Galaxy S9! The new S10 and Note 10 still house Dolby Atmos. So if you're an iPhone user and love your tunes, iPhone 11 Pro could be for you.

On iPhone 11, there is now a dual camera setup on the rear. There is a wide angle camera and now an ultra wide camera which allows you to zoom out up to 2x. It also takes photos and videos in 4K/60 frames per second, as do the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

The camera also has a great feature that we'd like to see in other smartphone cameras - Apple call it 'QuickTake' - tap and hold the shutter button to take a video even when you're in photo mode.

They've also stepped up the front facing 'selfie' camera too. iPhone 11 now features a 12MP TrueDepth sensor and can shoot 4K video too, you now also have the ability to record slow-mo videos using the front facing camera, at 4K too.

Onto performance next and iPhone 11 features Apple's next generation A13 Bionic chip - the fastest CPU ever in a smartphone. Battery wise, it has improved slightly as you're getting 1 hour more than the iPhone XR.

The iPhone will finally features something many Android phones do in this day and age - wireless charging! Wireless charging features on iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max.

If you happen to drop your new iPhone 11 into a bucket of water or even down the toilet, don't panic as the iPhone 11 is water resistance for up to 2 meters for 30 minutes.

You can have all of the above and even more from iPhone 11 as they start from just $699.

Up next in the land of iPhone, we've got the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max and they feature some fantastic brand new designs.

There is a new stainless steal design and a mat textured finish too. There are three new colour options to choose from: Midnight green, silver, gold and space grey.

With a name change comes a new display size: the iPhone 11 Pro is 5.8 inches with the iPhone 11 Pro Max having a 6.5 inch display and it has a Super Retina XDR Display. It also features Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound.

Battery wise, you're getting 4 hours longer battery life and 5 hours on the 11 Pro Max. Keeping on the subject of battery life and charging, there is a fast charging power cable included in the box to power these devices.

These days cameras in smartphones are getting better and better and as mentioned above with the iPhone 11 that now features a dual setup, the Phone 11 Pro and Pro Max now have a triple camera setup!

On both the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, there's a new 12 MP ultra-wide camera, 12 MP wide camera and a 12 MP telephoto lens. You're able to zoom in and out x2 and and you can take photos using all three lens from one vantage point. Take stunning videos too as all of the cameras shoot 4K at 60 frames per second.

Within iOS 13, there is an update in the Photos app which will allow you allow you to edit photos within the app with new editing tools.

The iPhone 11 Pro starts from $999 and the iPhone 11 Pro Max starts from $1099.
