WhatApp's parent company Meta have announced some new features for WhatsApp

Meta have made some changes to the end-to-end encrypted messaging app, WhatsApp, which are available in the latest version of the app.

Reactions

WhatsApp's blog reported 'Reactions', in the form of emoji, are now available for use on the app. They can be used in 1-2-1 chats and group chats. It looks like you will be able to react to messages using a thumbs up, love heart, crying with laughter face, shocked face, sad face and praying hands emoji. WhatsApp have also said 'with all emojis and skin-tones to come' in the future.

👍❤️😂😮😢🙏 are the emoji that will be available for use first of all.

It doesn't look like everyone has had the app update yet though as we're still unable to add reactions to messages and do not yet have the option in respective app stores to update WhatsApp.

Larger file sizes

The size limit of files you can send in WhatsApp chats has also been increased from the previous limit of 100MB to 2GB. Files will be protected by end-to-end encryption too.

WhatsApp hope this will allow people to get things done and allow 'for collaboration among small businesses and school groups.'

Larger groups

In the same blog post, WhatApp announced a 'top requests we’ve consistently received' is for more people to be added in to a group. Currently, you have add up to 256 people in a single group. This will be increased to 512. With this amount of people in a group, you may find using the new emoji reactions a welcome addition to avoid clogging the chat up with a swarm of emoji.
