A new era for Twitter has started under Tesla owner and billionaire, Elon Musk.

All the tweets are true. The world's richest person and owner of electric car company Tesla, Elon Musk has taken ownership of Twitter in a deal worth $44 billion (£38.1 billion).

Once the deal was complete, Elon Musk tweeted, from his own Twitter account, "the bird is freed'.

The New York Stock Exchange said trading in Twitter shares were suspended and a filing was made with US Securities and Exchange Commission which has confirmed Musk's takeover of the social media platform.

Although Elon Musk now owns Twitter, there was a time where the deal may have not gone ahead as Musk was accusing Twitter on providing misleading figures and information on how many people use the service but Twitter executives took legal action against Elon Musk which would hold him to his deal to buy Twitter as he wanted to back out of the deal in summer.

Another thing Musk has planned will be to reinstate bans on some accounts that Twitter have previously banned for violating policies.

Who will become the next CEO of Twitter (as former Twitter Chief Executive Parag Agrawal was let go from the company when Musk took ownership)? We don't know. But Elon Musk will be responsible for Twitter though.

He will run Twitter alongside his positions at SpaceX and Tesla.

We wonder if there's a Telsa charging point at Twitter's head office car park?
