Loads of us use WhatsApp as a means of communication, but what happens when your chats go?

All the major smartphone brands - Apple, Samsung, Windows and more - have WhatsApp in their store for you to download.

One reason why it's so popular is because it's free to use. You can call and text people on it and even send photos without blowing up your phone bill. More recently, WhatsApp also added end-to-end encryption, too.

What we're about to talk about isn't anything to worry about, but we just thought we'd let you know something useful and we are not saying to should stop using WhatsApp in any way.

You've got to admit it, it feels great that you've got the latest iPhone or Samsung device, doesn't it? Yes, yes it does. You can however, wait till your contract runs out but who wants to wait?

We noticed a few days ago that, if you buy a new handset and install WhatsApp, all your chats have disappeared on your new handset, Don't panic, there're still on your old phone! (Unless you have deleted them)

Your group chats, however, stay. NOTE: only the groups stay but NOT that content in it. You can still talk to the people in the chat but because you've got a new handset, you loose all the old messages. Get it?

We're currently looking to see if there is a way to can get your old messages back and we will let you know soon if there is a way.

Feel free to carry on using WhatsApp, we just wanted to let you know about the above information for the next time you buy the latest phone.
