Ava Max bags the first number one of 2019

The Official Big Top 40 Chart is back for 2019. In its revamped format, it is now played out exclusively on Heart and Capital FM, with new presenter: Will Manning.

Starting the chart off, Will Manning counted down the 5 biggest tunes of 2018, then started counting down the top 40 tunes for this week - the first chart of the year. Now all of the Christmas tunes have gone, there are some re-entries and some fresh, brand new ones in the chart today.

Number 40 sees a re-entry for the show that dominated the UK box office last year: The Greatest Showman. "A Million Dreams" sung by Ziv Zaifman, Michelle Williams, Hugh Jackman.

Dynoro with "In My Mind" is also a re-entry at number 39.

Ariana Grande re-enters the chart this week with her hit tune "breathin'", at number 38. 2019 sees big things for Ariana Grande.

The first new entry of the week comes from Chris Brown. He's well-known for his tunes such as "Yeah 3x". "Undecided" starts off its life in the chart at number 37.

Khalid re-enters the UK Biggest Chart this week with "Better", at number 36. Its highest chart position is 28.

A cover of The Greatest Showman's "Never Enough" has re-entered at number 35 this week. It is sung by Loren Allred.

Zendaya, Zac Efron, The Greatest Showman Ensemble, Keala Settle, Hugh Jackman feature once again in the first chart of 2019 with another smash hit from The Greatest Showman. "The Greatest Show" charts at number 34.

Number 33 is a re-entry for George Ezra with "Hold My Girl". It's also the highest this tune has got to in the chart so far.

Anne-Marie's "Perfect To Me" is also back in the chart once more. This week it has charted at number 32. Will it get higher next week?

Silk City, Dua Lipa re-enter the chart at number 30 with "Electricity". The highest this song has been is in the top 3!

DJ Snake re-enters the chart along with Selena Gomez, Ozuna & Cardi B as they feature on his track "Taki Taki".

Will Manning's first guest on The Official Big Top 40, and the first one of 2019 is, former X Factor winner and 2018 I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! contestant: Fleur East. Her brand new song "Favourite Thing" comes in at number 28 this week.

'One Kiss" by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa was crowned the UK's number one song of 2018 in the Chart Of The Year last week. It's slipped a few places this week, though, at number 27.

"Just Got Paid" by Sigala, Ella Eyre, Meghan Trainor & French Montana re-enters the chart for 2019 at number 26.

Troye Sivan, Charli XCX re-enter the first chart of the year with "1999".

Loud Luxury and Brando have also re-entered the chart with "Body". The highest chart position for this song is number three.

Liam Payne, Lennon Stella and Jonas Blue are also back in the charts with "Polaroid", charting at number 23 this week.

Another former X Factor winner, James Arthur, is also back in the charts this week. His latest track "Empty Space" climbs in as a re-entry at number 22.

Number 21 is yet another re-entry. This time for Ellie Goulding, Diplo featuring. Swae Lee with "Close To Me".

Last year was a fantastic one for Zara Larsson as her single "Ruin My Life" came into ours. It's a re-entry and charts at number 20 on the chart this week.

This former number one from Little Mix featuring Nicki Minaj charts at number 19. "Woman Like Me" is also a re-entry.

Up next is the official song for the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Post Malone and Swae Lee are back in the chart with "Sunflower".

Freya Ridings re-enters at number 14 with "Lost Without You".

Post Malone features in the chart again this week. This time he has gone solo for his brand new song "Wow.", which comes in at number 13.

Rita Ora re-enters the chart with her former number one "Let You Love Me" at number 12 on the biggest chart show this week.

Years & Years featuring Jax Jones re-enter at number 11 with 'Play".

Ariana Grande also pops back up in the first chart of the year, again. This time with her former number one hit "thank u, next". It's come into the top 10 this week, at number 10.

Clean Bandit featuring Marina and the Diamonds & Luis Fonsi chart at number nine with "Baby".

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper re-enter at number eight with the soundtrack to A Star Is Born. "Shallow"'s highest position in the chart is number 2.

"Without Me" by Halsey re-enters at number seven. It's the highest position for it, too.

James Arthur and Anne-Marie re-enter at number five with their cover version of "Rewrite The Stars" from The Greatest Showman.

Number four sees another cover of a Greatest Showman classic. It's a re-entry and former number one from P!nk with "A Million Dreams".

The first number three slot for 2019 goes to Jess Glynne with "Thursday". She has had more number one songs in The Big Top 40 Chart than anyone else.

Mark Ronson featuring Miley Cyrus re-enter the chart with former number one song "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" at number two on the chart this week.

This means that the first number one of 2019 goes to... Ava Max with "Sweet but Psycho". It has been at the top once before and is a re-entry this week!
