Phone shop Carphone Warehouse to shut all of its standalone stores
Dixons Carphone, the parent company who own Carphone Warehouse, have announced its closing all of its 531 standalone stores on Friday 3 April.
As a result of store closures, 2,900 jobs will be lost.
Thankfully, this isn't the end for Carphone Warehouse stores as the 305 stores inside some Currys PC World shops aren't being closed so won't be affected by the huge change.
These store closures aren't related to the current coronavirus pandemic, say Carphone Warehouse, it's because people aren't visiting the stores as much as they used to and are instead, purchasing mobile phones and tablets elsewhere, such as in the larger Currys PC World stores.
It is understood that about 1,800 staff are to take up new roles within the business.
With more and more people holding onto their smart handset for longer than before, is it a surprise that something like this has happened as smartphone sales decline?
